Buku ini meninjau arus state-of-the-art paradigma dan prinsip di bidang Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Bab dalam buku ini akan membahas aspek-aspek penting dari kedua patofisiologi dan patogenesis ARDS. Patogenesis sendiri akan dibahas di kedua eksperimental dan Studi klinis
sebelumnya pembahasan patogenesis cedera paru ventilator-diinduksi dan sepsis /
septic-induced cedera paru.
Meskipun secara keseluruhan efektivitas terapi tetap banyak menjadi topik perdebatan bersaing dalam studi, metode terbaru secara menyeluruh disajikan termasuk terapi glukokortikoid, terapi surfaktan,
posisi rentan, bentuk ventilasi mekanik (invasif dan non-invasif), dan saat ini penelitian dalam penggunaan sel induk mesenchymal.
Edisi ini mencakup topik selain topik penting dibahas sebelumnya. Bidang-bidang baru telah berkembang nyata dalam lima tahun terakhir yang menjamin bab baru untuk buku ini, faktor terutama prediktif termasuk ekspresi gen profil dan biomarker, dan kemokin dan sitokin dalam ARDS.
