Dr Alan J. Pierce telah menjabat sebagai seorang guru di SD, menengah, dan perguruan tinggi selama lebih dari 40 tahun. Dr Pierce memiliki banyak artikel yang ditulis dalam field of education, ia juga salah seorang penulis pada proyek pengembangan kurikulum, ia juga menjabat sebagai konsultan teknis pada Buku teknologi anak-anak. Dia adalah seorang editor dan penulis middle school Agricultural Biology yang didanai NSF Proyek TECHknow di North Carolina State University. Dr Pierce menciptakan kolom “Technology Today” untuk majalah Tech Directions dan telah menulis kolom ini sejak tahun 1995.
Dennis Karwatka adalah seorang profesor di Department of Industrial Education and Technology at Morehead State University. Dia mengajar selama bertahun-tahun di high school Upward Bound Program. Ia telah menulis buku teks untuk sekolah menengah/SMA, five technical history books, and beberapa artikel, serta banyak artikel Dennis Karwatka menciptakan terbitan bulanan “Technology’s Past” di Tech Directions dan telah memiliki kolom menulis sejak tahun 1980. Dia Terdaftar sebagai Insinyur Profesional dengan pengalaman dalam pendaratan Program Apollo lunar dan pengembangan mesin jet.
Lingkup Pembahasan:
Sebagaimana buku teks terbitan McGraw-Hil yang lain, Buku ini didesain dengan oraganisasi tulisan yang sama, yaitu terdiri atas Unit, Bab, dan Bagian. Di mana setiap Bab selalu dilengkapi dengan Review Assessmen dan Lab Technologi. Dan pada akhir setiap Unit selalu dilengkapi dengan kegiatan.
Buku ini terdiri atas 7 Unit 22 Bab. Unit 1 membahas tentang Hakikat Technologi, terdiri atas 6 Bab, yaitu Bab 1 sampai dengan Bab 6. Bab 1 mengemukakan tentang Mengapa perlu Mempelajari Teknologi, Bab 2 Konsep Teknologi, Bab 3 Proses, Alat-alat, dan Bahan-bahan yang berkaiatan dengan teknologi. Bab 4 Desain dan Pemecahan Masalah, Bab 5 Dari Gambar menjadi Prototip, dan Bab 6 Hubungan Teknologi.
Unit 2 Membahas tentang Energi dan Kekuatan Teknologi. Unit ini terdiri atas 2 Bab, yaitu Bab 7 dan Bab 8. Bab 7 membahasa tentang Energi dan Kekuatan untuk Teknologi dan Bab 8 membahas tentang Listrik untuk Kebutuhan Elektronika.
Unit 3 membahasa perihal Teknologi Komukasi. Unit ini terdiri atas 5 Bab, yaitu Bab 9 sampai dengan Bab 13. Bab 9 mengemukakan masalah Sistem Komunikasi, Bab 10 Mengenai Teknologi Komputer, Bab 11 tentang Komunikasi Gambar, Bab 12 mengemukakan masalah Teknologi Photografi, Bab 13 Tentang Teknologi Multimedia.
Unit 4 membahas tentang Bioteknologi. Unit inib terdiri atas 2 Bab, yaitu Bab 14 dan Bab 15. Bab 14 mengemukakan tentang Bioteknologi Medis dan Bab 15 Tentang Bioteknologi Pertanian.
Unit 5 membahas tentang Teknologi Manufaktur. Unit ini terdiri atas 2 Bab, yaitu Bab 16 dan Bab 17. Bab 16 mengemukakan masalah Sistem Manufaktur dan Bab 17 tentang Manufaktur pada abad 21.
Unit 16 mengemukakan masalah Teknologi Konstruksi. Unit ini terdiri atas 3 bab, yaitu Bab 18 sampai dengan Bab 20. Bab 18 mengemukakan masalah seluk-beluk Konstruksi, Bab 19 mengenai Membangun Rumah/Mendiringan bangunan, dan Bab 20 Konstruksi Berat.
Unit 7 Membahas tentang Teknologi Transportasi. Unit ini terdiri atas 2 Bab, yaitu Bab 21 dan Bab 22. Bab 21 mengemukakan masalah Tenaga Transportasi dan Bab 22 mengenai Sistem Transportasi.
Sebagaimana semua buku terbitan McGraw-Hill, desain buku selalu bagus dan sangat menarik untuk dilihat dan dipelajari. Full gambar dan full color. Di samping itu organisasi penyajian selalu professional dan lengkap.
